Deb's Lake Conroe Real Estate & Stuff! : Reciprocity or Animosity?

Reciprocity or Animosity?

Reciprocity or Animosity?

Hi. I am a newbie. I don't give a darn about whether you read me, like me, or agree with me. I was so excited to come across Active Rain! Somewhere I could just be me and it didn't matter. I blogged till my fingers hurt since I'm the worst typist in the world. But, all I seem to read lately is how everyone is being "catty".  I am disappointed in this site. I felt thrilled when I read Chris and Marti, TLW and Karen too. It sounded like the people here really cared about others. It didn't seem like everyone was vying for the top spot on AR. What is that anyway? I am in the top of my GOOGLE field in my area and isn't that what counts? I would much rather read about people's REAL LIFE DRAMAS instead of hearing about everyone's biotching about everything. I am disappointed and wish we could all be friends. Thanks, Deb

Just don't read the catty posts. There really are very few of them. You're just looking in the wrong places. There are always going to be "those people". Join the group, "Positive Attitude for the weary soul". You can always just read a bunch of posts from that group.

Welcome, Deb!  I happened to catch this blog and wanted to let you know that unfortunately, it just seems you've come across some blogs on things that needed to be said.  Activerain is a WONDERFUL PLACE and you can't ask to meet nicer people.  That's my opinion and I stand by it, I have the most amazing people in my life because of it!  Hang in there, you'll find the people you "connect" with and subscribe to their blogs.  There are some truly terrific people on this site.

Thank you Lisa, I should listen to you. I am feeling down about this all. I am learning so much from the posts but I have felt there are wars going on. I will take your advice and I will read your posts. Thanks again, Deb

Ok...I really don't check to see if I'm first in Google, nevermind first on AR...cussing won't solve the problem and you can't let people ruin your good time. Just keep blogging n have fun!

Jon, You make me want to cry. I have become so involved with this site that I have found myself making excuses to Work itself. I just wanted to say thanks for all the good information. Deb

Dear Lania, I have been so blessed because of my own nosey personality that I have found the way to be on the top of Google. If you need any help with that just let me know. It really works! Deb

Debra - There are many many many more positive posts and people here than negative, catty people. I just don't read or comment  on those posts. Continue is a great place here in the rain.

Debra - Welcome, I too think AR was a great find.  I like people who are straight shooters, you don't get rattled by what others do or fail to do I can so relate to that. There will alway be many different personalities to deal with in any group however I must say most of the members here are nice.  See you around the rain.

Don't let it get to you, bloggers are front line people, in life a few snippets are bound to happen. Just like a family. Lots of strong personalities here, so just read and comment on the ones that you enjoy. Skip the rest. I have been here since December and I have only seen one or two uncomfortable things. You have a great attitude.

Debra:  I am a newbie and have been on AR about 4 months.  I will tell you that everyone I've met so far have been so kind, encouraging and helpful.  I even wrote a blog recently recognizing so many of the folks who have impacted my life in a postive way.  Check it out if you can not because it's my blog but because I list so many wonderful people that I think you should read up on.  This is an awesome website and I haven't found anything else out there that even comes close to what this website offers.  There's always a little bad in most everything but the good on this website more than outweighs the bad.  I hope you feel better about things by the time you read this comment.

Jennifer, no doubt you are right. I have been looking at the wrong posts. Not all of them though. I have come across intelligent, tallented, unique folks on this site. I'm just really sad about hard feelings. I am here to feel better. And, your posts are so wonderful. Deb

That's Funny, Deb. I had been thinking that way myself, perhaps not quite as intensely. The problem I had was trying to calm the negativity and self grandising without sounding cranky myself. I couldn't think of a way to say it, so I didn't say anything.  However, in one of my recent blogs I commented on another blogger who told a VERY positive story about another agent. I really appreciated that story. So, I began to think if we just ignore the relatively small amount of disrespect that some show others regarding full service--compared to fee based service, discount brokering vs traditional commission based agencies--and focus on the positive, then maybe, just maybe we will make a positive difference. There is tons of great educational and experienced based information here, and a lot of positive attitude. We just need to target those and avoid the debates. If you go to to other blog sites, sooner or later you find much of the same.

I advocate the message from the Mary/Martha parable. Basically if we just not judge what the other is doing and focus on what we are doing and how to improve. Although, in truth we can learn also from the generally degrading comments about the "other agent", because we learn not to behave that way (usually Active Rainers would never be the other agent anyway).

By the way, I have a blog about waterfront property, NOT. I notice that you are into waterfront property. Is there water in sight? My husband and I were considering your area before we settled on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

There are good people on here, you just need to weed out the bad ones who are just here for the top spot on the main page of AR. Welcome to Active Rain.

Hi Debra - I'm with you in that I don't like to see a lot of negativity coming form the community. What I've found, however, is that there are only a few "bad apples" - just like what you'd find anywhere. Don't let them in, and they shouldn't spoil your good time.

Dear Ilyce, Thanks for the support. I have read many of your posts and I have enjoyed them! I don't like the negative. I'm here for positive reenforcement. The same as most of us. I have written blogs that no one has bothered to comment on and they were my deepest secrets. Maybe I should not be giving away all my secrets? Anyway, your response is wonderful and I appreciate it more than you could know. Thanks and great blogging to you! Deb

Hi Debra,

I'm sorry you have found the "catty" posts disturbing. Most of us do. Sometimes I think the writers are just looking for something to post about and some people like to stir things up. Just blog along and ignore the ones you don't like. It's not something I like to mention when I first meet someone, lol...LIke Welcome to AR and beware of the bad apples.. They are there. So are many many very nice people. You will find the ones you relate to most.

Hi, Debra!  Sorry you ran across the cattiness.  Shame on us for airing our dirty laundry!  Usually we're very nice, but every now and then I will (politely, ahem) jump on someone else.  Lately I have semi-ranted about people telling the Newbies what to do and about a couple friends who were SLAMMED out on the net by another member here.  But I think those two cases were positives after all, even if they didn't look so much like it.  Standing up for someone is better than letting it slide by, in my book.  If I don't say I'm against it, it's almost like I said I was for it.  Most of the time I'm pretty positive, and I can't even rant that well.  *Sigh*

Hope your time here is more positive in the future!

We need a 'catty' tag. So posts can be filtered. LOL

Just like everythging else inthis business, you have to take the good with the bad.

Debra- I could not agree with you more. These type of posts drive me nuts! Its like being back in high school all over. I am here to learn, make a few friends or more importantly a few agents I could send referals to and most importantly the Google juice!

It can be "catty" ... But it's "catty" in real life too.

AR has a way of mimicing real life. Not only that, but conversations take on a tone just because some people hide behind a keyboard.

I know for a fact that people will say things on line that they wouldn't dare say to your face. Imagine that :)

Quite honestly...I have adapted to the "catty" and I don't care any more. I just let AR know what's going on and then I move on. Seems to work for me :)

Awwww... I am so sad to read this post. So many of us have had such a warm and wonderful experience here. I want you to know that this site is filled with wonderful friends you just haven't met yet!! I promise :) I've only had one catty remark someone made in a comment that followed one I had made. It didn't matter to me at all because this was her jealousy coming through - an ugly trait if there ever was one.

So, belatedly..... WELCOME TO ACTIVE RAIN DEBRA!!!!
