Deb's Lake Conroe Real Estate & Stuff! : Merry XMas with due respect to Christ!

Merry XMas with due respect to Christ!

Merry XMas! Yeah right!

Daddy, Daddy,

Don't be mad. I was only about 6 years old. Someone at my school told me that I didn't have to write Christ into the phrase Merry Christmas! They said, "you can save time by writing Merry XMas!" and at age 6, I didn't put 2 and 2 together. With the slap of his hand across my pants and a terribly disappointed look on his face, my dad taught me the reason to take the time to write Christ. Oh, I knew the Christmas story and the entire biblical history. But, when you're 6, things don't always make sense. After my father kneeled at my side and with tears in his eyes, shared with my little 6 year old psyche the true story of the birth of Christ, I cried. I'm sorry daddy. I will never let Christ out of Christmas again. I, today, will never let Christ out of Christmas.

                                        MERRY CHRISTMAS Y'ALL!

and Proud of it! Deb

I have never been able to write Christmas with an X.  Just doesn't seem right.

Debra, what a beautiful story.  It is so easy to us to take Christ out of Christmas isn't it?  It try to wear a little pin through the holidays that says "Jesus is the reason for the season".  Only problem is I wear it on a coat and don't wear coats often; but when I do it is on there.

Thank you all. I remember the pain in my fathers eyes yet for me it was so unintentional. I felt the pain of Christ. Deb

Its not Christmas without Christ! Who came up with X-mas anyway? Its not even a word. This is a great reminder of what Christmas is really about. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story.

You know Mary, with the commercialism we are fighting today I believe there are many children that believe it's all about Santa Clause instead of Christ. It is sad and I work every year not to let the meaning be lost in presents. I don't know who came up with this except for an athiest...ya think? Happy Thanksgiving. Deb

If someone doesn't want to say Christ.... then I will accept Happy Holidays.

But X-Mas is not acceptable.

Celebrating the gospel is a good thing!!

It is the salvation of our souls and the power of our resurrection!!!

I don't think I have ever written Christmas like that.... Never been big on most abbreviations come to think of it.  Glad you grew up and saw the light!

Hi Debra in Huntsville from Kathy in Paradise,TX.

I agree with you girl and that we should NOT be too lazy to write Christ name, ESPECIALLY for his brithday!

I just wanted to share something that, as a child of the seventies (...I'm dating myself aren't I?), the first time we saw this trend, I was just shocked. Leave Christ out of Christmas, how dare they! At that time we were blessed in my little Southern Baptist Church in Mississippi to have a wonderful youth minister. The one thing that he pointed out and that I will NEVER forget was this. He told us to just point out to the person writing it that way that they hadn't really left Christ out by writing the "X". In the FISH symbol, if you will notice, the X in that symbol stands for.......CHRIST!!! You just CAN'T leave Christ out, now can you?

God Bless....and thanks for the wonderful story.

WOW, never thought about it like that.  I use XMas out of convience and to save strokes with the pen about halfway through my Christmas cards.

Merry CHRISTMAS to you.  Have a safe and Happy Season!  And sell a home or two!
