HUNTSVILLE TEXAS REAL ESTATE IS PROUD TO BE BEAUTIFUL.
Way back, I'm not saying how far, I hold in my mind a memory of Paradise. It is a memory of an oasis in the middle of the Texas Piney Woods. I had never seen anything so beautiful. As a young teen my friends and I would pile into a car and head for what we called the Rock Quarry. The Rock Quarry was out in the middle of Pine Forests in the quaint town of Huntsville, Texas.
Dive into the Blue Lagoon...What's hot about our spot?
Many of us can reach back to our childhood memories, pull them out of our
pocket and manage to smile. This memory is a great one for me!
We would drive down a dirt road through massive Pines, old fences, bluffs and the occasional broken down cabin. We came to a clearing that I was certain God had placed there for me! It was an Oasis just for us!
We would park and walk a few steps and we would be at the edge of the most beautiful white rock bluff that dropped sharply to the bluest water I had ever laid my eyes on.
It was the spot I got most of my sunburns. It was the spot I dared to jump from the bluff into the clear depths of infinity. We would swim till our arms would not let us anymore.
We would sun on the bluff as if worshipping the sun and the sky. We made memories of paradise.
I'M GOING TO TELL YOU ALL ABOUT PARADISE! FOUND IN HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS.
I've just discovered that it's still there! I have been back in Huntsville for 12 years now. I have asked everyone where it was! No one could answer...
Weird, huh? Well, Adam Waldman, of Local Expert of Active Rain Network encouraged us to learn more about our area, write articles and publish as a ReLocation Package. I listened and I did it.

Okay, girlfriend.....WHAT DO YOU LEARN YOUR ROCK QUARRY WAS???? AND, where is it in Huntsville? That is a beautiful place!!
My family had a favorite swimming hole when I was growing up in Southern Miss. It was just as you described your ride through the tall pines down a little logging path, winding around for about four miles. Just about 1 mile from the creek, you could start to smell the water. NOT a bad smell by any means. It is such a clean refreshing smell that I just can't put words on. All at once, you would be at the bank (WHITE SAND) and the deep pool was at the bottom of this little sandy hill bank. We would start running from the top with innertubes and jump right out in the middle. It would be so cold, it took your breath away.
Well after not going down that path for many years, the path began to grow up. My parents moved us to Texas in 1976. The swimhole was just not thought of.
WELL, the one good thing that came out of Katrina was the rediscovery of the swimhole! ALL of the 50 year old pines were blown down for the most part. Once the timber was cleared away, THERE IT WAS! My aunt & uncle discovered it one weekend on their four wheelers. I got to see it this past summer. Even thought there were still trees blown around everywhere, it was just as beautiful as I remembered and still SMELLED WONDERFUL!
Thanks for making me remember again.
Well, I'm with you on YOUR Paradise spot. I WON'T DIVE so I can't go in there. BUT, it would be a great spot to just go and see.
This is a new picture of MY Paradise Spot. I took it back in September (2007) on my last trip "home". My aunt couldn't wait for me to go and see the 'ole swimhole. Her dog Lucy followed us down through the woods. We had a GREAT afternoon just thinking about the "OLD DAYS". She is more like a sister than an aunt. She is my Dad's baby sister and is only 2 weeks older than I am. We are very close.
I'm not a great picture taker but this one turned out really nice, if I do say so myself!
Gone to bed. Talk to you later.
Hey Kat, Lucy looks really happy. It is just beautiful. Time passes much too quickly but it's comforting to see things today that we remember with so much love. Your Paradise looks fab. Did you run with your tube on and jump in the middle?? Why were things so much easier then?
Goodnight and sweet dreams...Later in the rain~Deb
We SURE did!! Of course the sand bank is not as high as it was back then because of the rising water from the hurricanes coming through and changing the course of the creek that fed it.
Lucy loves that place! Now with the trail cleaned away and because its so close to my aunt's house, she goes down there to cool off a LOT during the summer. It's funny, though, she always seems to know when bad weather is coming because she won't go down there if its thundering or lightning.
I need to email you and find out if you know a couple of families around Groverton.
