Deb's Lake Conroe Real Estate & Stuff! : Real Estate Just Is.

Real Estate Just Is.

When you are considering throwing in the towel because you've had more bumps and bruises than you think you can take, I would like to ask you to think again. Please, think again.

We all go through hard times and times that make us wish we were somewhere else, doing something else either more fulfilling or simply something that pays more money.  I am reminded of Vince Lombardi's famous speech that has lived in the hearts of many men and women.

Real Estate can't be directly compared to football but then what can be compared other than more football?  I believe within this heartfelt speech is the true basis of "be true to one's self."

Yes, that's what a female gets out of this speech, men.  You could and probably will disagree with me fervently but hey, that's what makes the world go around. Vince Lombardi's famous tagline was

"Winning isn't everything; it's the only thing" quote by Vince Lombardi. Read Vince's whole speech at

To some degree, I can't disagree with that.

Wait, wait, wait.

Don't leave yet!

We win in so many different ways. If I were walking into the street and a bus was coming at me and my husband was standing next to me, I would push him out of the way. Even if I met with my demise I would consider myself the winner. Simply because he lived.

This may sound like a strange twist but it isn't. As long as you, yourself, are happy with yourself, then others around you cannot bring you down. Neither can a lack or inconsistency of business. If you believe your business will come then it will.

My goal here is to convince (con (with) Vince (Lombardi) how funny! My goal here is to convince you to hang in with Real Estate if you like it! Don't take a break now and then say you'll try it again later when the market turns! So will every other disgruntled agent in the US. You see? To stay ahead and be ahead when the market is the time for your wins. Don't let down on your game now!

You can win by working twice as hard as the next person. You can win by placing your best foot forward, looking out after the other person (client or family or friend) before your own needs. You can win by making it through each battle with a good attitude. You can win by going to sleep at night knowing you have done the best for all who are around you, even if the consequences were not directly beneficial to you in the physical sense.

You can be a winner and you can be successful even when the purse strings are tight. When they do loosen up...and they will, it will come back to you tenfold.

So, do you like Real Estate? Get busy and hang in there. There is more than enough business to go around for us all.deb's button

Real Estate isn't going anywhere.

Real Estate Just Is.

Debra - Good Post.  I had the same verbage for an agent in my office today.  After three years of laying the ground work she has decided to end her real estate career.  This tough time is taking its toll in a number of ways.

Joel and Teresa, wow. I hate that! Tell her a body in motion remains in motion. If she stops now. It'll take all her previous efforts and flush them down the toidy. Shame. I'm so sorry. Maybe she'll sleep on it and have a more positive attitude in the morning! Good luck to you.

It's a tough business. It can be a struggle, it can be heart wrenching, it can be so difficult at times, but it's full of rewards. The rewards are what make it great.

Had 2 friends just leave the business. Excellent agents too. It's a shame when 2 of the best human beings out there with hearts of gold have to give it up. I've nearly given it up myself on several occasions, but knowing that I treat people right makes me stay put. I really love helping others.

I hope that everyone with heart and soul that likes this profession stays put. It's these people that give real estate a good name and truly help people in need.

Sounds like she is dropping the ball in the ninth inning......if the market springs back, and it will, maybe she will come back --- she may need a steady income like most of us do.  It is very difficult for us in this economy, and with the gas prices on top of it!

This is an inspirational post to pass on to anyone that we care about in the industry who is contemplating leaving.

Good evening Debra- You are right, thanks for the inspirational post. WE all need to just hang in there.

Posted by Pam Joffe (Solaris Realty) almost 11 years ago

Wendy, you just spoke a million dollars worth of words. Thank you.

Ernie, I know it sounds easy when we are at the end of our rope. Just remember that with the right faith and the work to back it up, it can be saved!

Barbara, it sounds so much easier than it really is. But, then doesn't most everything in this life?

And to Solaris Realty, scraping doesn't sound very appealing but we will be rewarded.

Deb. That was a great post. Thanks for sharing. Royal..

Hi Deb...Hopefully those Rainers that are thinking of giving up real estate have the chance to read your post.  Perhaps some will change their mind.

It is hard to know sometimes what is best for others but if they really like being a REALTOR® and all that it entails I hope they will do everything possible to stay.  When the market is down it is very, very tough for some.  However, when the market is good (and the majority of the time it is) it can be very exhilirating.

I agree with Wendy that it is so important to encourage those that are excellent examples of the best in our profession and those that have the potential to be.

Thanks, Deb.  Perhaps you will make a difference, even if it is with just one agent.

Hi DEB,  Regardless of the economy people are always going to be buying and selling houses; as we are a nation on the move.  You give some great advice!

Thank you Royal. I love your name.

Kathleen, it's such a shame to lose the good ones. It makes me sad. Thank you for the comment and yes, I do hope I am able to convince "anyone" to stay put.

Yes, Marchel, we just have to be at the right place at the right time, keep our names in front of the right people, keep people saying good things about us and work very, very hard! See? No problem.

Deb, the black eyed susans are getting bigger and so is the market.  We have had nine agents in the last month that I know give up and leave.  Why can't they decide to make a difference in their market?  I have read the speach a couple to times a year as it is on a plaque in my office.  More than anything "being true to one's self" is more important than anything other than being true to our God because if you are true to God then Hi struth will be in you.

Great post and I really love your attitude about life in general.  No wonder why the smile shows up in your eyes instead of just the mouth.  (I cheated and actually look at the eyes to see if it is really true)

Deb - You hit the nail on the head, my friend.  I have a similar post in mind to write this week sometime.  I hope you had a great weekend.  Let's talk sometime soon -

Deb - You know where I stand right now. I am exhausted thinking about it and working as hard as I am to get ahead in this market. I have a lot of thinking and soul searching to do on this. I hate the fact that another great Realtor ( with a heart of gold ) left the business. For me and probably for many who are struggling our hearts are in the right places when we think of our family and the financial stress. Maybe that is why for some of us it seems easier to "know when to fold them".

DEB, OMG, I so needed that today.  It's been a rough year for me.  Some days you really want to just throw in the towel.  But, I'm still here and here to stay!  Thank you for the little nudge!!

Hey Deb

Nice post. Football taught me a lot about life and business and about not giving up even when the pain is awful.

Hey Deb

Football taught me a lot that I use in my business practice. Winning doesn't always mean being first. In real estate it can mean meeting your goals. To me every transaction is a goal, every lead a goal. By taking them one at a time and working them through it is amazing how many get completed

Have a prosperous week!

Debra, It is a tough time for many. I understand and support thiose that have to bow out. Thanks for the pep talk. I owe you. I believe and I can see beyond the fog.

By the way, Vince would be so proud! Hang in there and don't get wet. Thunderstorms

Dionne! I don't want it to be tough for anyone! I just believe we should keep our chins up and forge ahead...that's really all we can do! I understand there are some markets that are flat as a pancake...

Debra, What a lovely post.  Did you ever notice that people who are truly passionate about what they do manage to get by in the difficult times as well?  I don't believe you can fail at something you really love.
