Deb's Lake Conroe Real Estate & Stuff! : Be Prepared...Not Scared

Be Prepared...Not Scared

Hurricanes are a unique animal in my book. I've seen tornados, tropical storms, hail storms,  wind storms, snow storms and others.

I am in the preparation stages for our own Gustav. I want every one close to please take this to heart. The loss and devestation of the last several hurricanes will be felt for generations. New Orleans and its people are just beginning to breathe again after Katrina.

Being just one hour north of Houston I was able to donate my time to help with the misplaced families and survivors of Katrina. I felt their pain and watched them suffer. My heart opened up to the realization that we are all so lucky to have not lost our loved ones, homes and jobs. I do not want to see this again.

Not now and not ever. But, we must be prepared for the worst. Please review these links if you are anywhere with the possible reach of Gustav. If you need help please call your city offices immediately. Do not wait too long. It's better to be prepared and not need it than to need It and not be prepared.

Deb, sounds like you're prepared.  I hope it doesn't come this far west, but who knows where it will come ashore.  Family in Southwest Louiisiana is ready to leave, if they haven't already.  At least this time, they know where they're going and have told me and I have all their cell phone numbers.  When Rita hit, they were scattered all over and I didn't know where they were.

I was born in Florida, so I have been through many hurricanes.  Preperation is the key and listening when to evacuate.

Deb, we are as prepared as we can be, but it's impossible to pack up our entire house and take it with us.  We have evacuated to Nashville with the 2 youngest, while my oldest is in Houston and #2 should be on the road shortly.  While I can rest a little easier knowing everyone is safe, it doesn't take away the fear that I might not have a home to go home to.  Please keep everyone along the coast in your prayers.

Lisa, good to hear from you and know you are safe in Nashville (instead of Memphis?).  Praying you'll have a home to go back to.

Deb - What a phenomenon, being prepared seems to be the only reaction that makes sense.  Be safe my dear, as best you can.  There are a lot of folks, including me, that have you in our thoughts.

If I ever end up in a hurricane can you be there too? I've never experienced one and I'm sure that it's a lot different than our biggest thunderstorms.

Having lived on the gulf coast of Florida for many years in the past, I definitely experienced my fair share of hurricanes and both their destructiveness and the fear they can instill. I hope these two will not hit population centers and that the damage to people and property is minimal. I feel for those and hope they are safe.
