Deb's Lake Conroe Real Estate & Stuff! : More Drama? Not my choice...Y---Ike.

More Drama? Not my choice...Y---Ike.

Okay, I am reporting in. I'm scared. My hubby hates it when I say that. I guess it's because I've shown a sign of weakness.

We have been told by the State of Texas that we must have our cats under surveilance and in isolation for the next 65 days. For more information read my post titles, Drats, Cats, and bats.

1. Two cats had run out of their 3 year rabies certificate two weeks before a rabid bat showed up on our front porch. Therefore, by the state they must be isolated for 90 days.

2. We probably should have evacuated for the Hurricane Ike that is predicted to hit our Lake Livingston area with 100 mile an hour winds within the next 24 hours.

3. We cannot board our cats because of the state order. Remember my rabies post? My bat?

4. The 100 mile an hour wind will be directed directly to my house and this is the picture. Get the picture?

We have an entire wall of glass that will be hit with the direction predicted for IKE.

I have a tiny cuby hole prepared within the house that will allow us to hunker for the storm.

My husband is making me leave.

I don't want to drive north with the dog. He wants to watch out over the house and the cats.

I am scared. I don't know if I'll leave or weather the storm with him. We are going to make that call in the morning.

I just want to tell all of my AR friends and family that I will communicate as soon as I am able. If (when) our electricity goes out I will be without Internet and everything else. I have gas in my car...food in the house and a prayer on my lips.

I do pray for all the people that are in line to be hit by IKE and I thank our State for the reactions they've had in evacuating so many people that wouldn't have been able to get away.

I pray that all souls will be protected from this hurricane and all negative hits.

Please stay safe. I am thinking of all of you. I will remain in touch as I can...Later in the rain~Deb

P.S. I love you all, my friends..thank you for all the emails and calls of concern. Let's all pray for all.

Deb - be smart - LEAVE! Your husband should leave as well. Seriously, exactly what is he going to do if the wall of glass comes down? If you can't board it up, then get the heck out of Dodge - and I mean NOW. Put the cats in the car and head to relatives or at least 100 miles inland.

Posted by Simon Conway (Orlando Area Real Estate Services) about 11 years ago

Goodness, Deb, get out of there...and take your husband and the cats.  At least you'll be SAFE.  Please don't stay and leave before tomorrow morning when the traffic will likely be worse.  Do you have anywhere to go?  This is one powerful storm, I want you all to be safe.  I am sending all my blessings and prayers to everyone in it's path.

I'm hoping your lack of response means you left already!! Take your husband and the cats too. Did I already say that??

Posted by Simon Conway (Orlando Area Real Estate Services) about 11 years ago

Deb, having been a victim of a direct hit, I can say this, if you are expecting that strong of winds, you must evacuate now, waiting will make evacuation impossible if done too late, and tomorrow AM will probably be too late.  REMEMBER what I keep repeating, if you or ANYONE you know is effected by a damaged home you MUST hire your own private adjuster to deal with the insurance companies adjuster WITHOUT HESITATION!  Good luck - if I can do anything for you, let me know.

Simon, I'm here. I am trying to pack a bag in case we (Jill and I) leave. Scott's going to awaken at 5:00 am and check the weather. We'll make our decision then. Thank you my dear friend. I will check in later to let you know how it goes. Hugs,

Deb

Ronald, I am taking the advice to heart. I am worried and my nails are too tough to chew so I just keep walking...

I am breathing deep and I know the Angels are with us. Thank you so much. Deb

Deb - I'm pleased you are packing, but please leave tonight. Tomorrow the roads will be crazy. Even tonight they will be tough. Pack and leave.

Posted by Simon Conway (Orlando Area Real Estate Services) about 11 years ago

Deb, You have been through a lot over the past couple of weeks.  I pray that you and your family will be safe through the weekend.  I also hope that your life gets a little simpler so that you have time to enjoy your new house!

Take care Deb and put some distance between yourself and the high initial winds of the storm. I saw that the roads already were crowded.

Deb, I just left you a message!!!  Get over here NOW!!!   You know your way around San Antonio -- I'll give you directions to my house!!!  There's a room waiting for you!!!   I'll check with my neighbor in the morning -- she's head of the Humane Society -- maybe she can make arrangements to keep the cats safe -- I'm extremely allergic to cats, but we'll find a place to keep them safe here in S.A.

Call me!!!!   We're still up -- watching the weather.

JuJu, you are a wonderful person my dear. I will talk with you tomorrow and let you know where I am and what I'm doing. I don't even know tonight. You are a dear friend. Love you, Deb

Posted by Deb Brooks (Brooks Prime Properties Wichita Falls Texas) about 11 years ago

DEB, This storm is not looking good.  I have been glued to the television. I'm thinking you need to head but I would have trouble leaving; so I know what you are going through.

That's a lot of glass.  Is there any way to board it up?

Posted by Marchel Peterson, Spring TX Real Estate E-Pro (Results Realty) about 11 years ago

Marchel. I am going to get ready to go now. No. There is no way to board it up. It is hardy plank and a nail won't even penetrate it. I will talk with you as soon as I can. I mailed you the envelope today.

Love you.

Deb, ok, we'll talk tomorrow. Get a good night's sleep...

Posted by Judi Morgan, San Antonio, TX Real Estate (RETIRED) about 11 years ago

Deb- Damn.....hopefully you leave, and hopefully everyone leaves and stays safe.  Gustav petered out some, and I am praying this one does too.  We just don't know that's why it's better to be safe than sorry.  I would be taking Judi up on her offer....at least she has a connect with Animal Control as an added benefit :)  My prayers are with you......

Debra:  It sounds to me that because of your hubby's crabbiness attitude... you should isolate him along with the two cats.  Perhaps that will cheer him up into a more "understanding" mood... LOL.

Deb... with all you have been through recently... please know that my thoughts are with you.  Take care... stay dry... and please be careful.  Gentle Huggs...

Debra... Pt II:  Although I do not know Huntsville very well... I just checked the map on Mapquest... and see you are close to I-45... which should be totally jammed going all the way up to Dallas.

Again, I really am not all that familiar with the side roads... but might it be better to somehow get over to Rt 6 or whatever... and try and hit I-35 near Waco, and then at the I-35 split just south of Fort Worth... at Hillsboro... take I-35W into Fort Worth ?  Just a suggestion.

Call the Highway Patrol, or whoever you can and see if this makes sense.  Or, perhaps you know someone over in that area ?  Again, I am not all that familiar with the side roads... being in Fort Worth... but when I saw how close you are to 45, and how jammed it is supposed to be... it just got me thinking.  Please forgive me if my suggestion is a silly one... just take care.

I just spoke with Deb -- she's on her way up to Wichita Falls, TX to stay with her Aunt & Cousin!  Scott has decided to stay home and ride out the hurricane.  She doesn't know when she'll have internet access again, but will stay in touch by phone.

I received a call from someone last night that left Houston to go to Austin; he said they had no power or facilities in Houston where he lived. He said he was jut going to stay away from Houston; he is in the process of buying a home up here at Canyon Lake.

Hi Everyone -- I just spoke with Deb.  She's still in Wichita Falls with her Aunt.  She has spoken with Scott, no damage to the house but they don't have any electricity and won't for awhile.  She said she'll be blogging tonight -- she has figured out how to connect to "dial-up" internet service.  :)  Be watching for a post or at least comments from Deb tonight!!!  I'm certainly looking forward to it!  :)

Posted by Judi Morgan, San Antonio, TX Real Estate (RETIRED) about 11 years ago

Judi.. Thanks for letting us know.  I'm glad that she is ok.  I know she doesn't have electricity, but things could have been a lot worse.  Thank GOD she is ok.

Judi my friend,

You have been so very wonderful. I felt more secure and loved with you checking on me periodically. I'm so glad to be home. I want to thank you for all the help you've given me through all this IKE ICK.

I hope you are doing well and we will talk again very very soon.

Hugs,

Deb

Deb, I'm glad you're back home too.  I'm sure you enjoyed your visit with your Aunt & Cousin, but you know you had a place to stay here too.  :)   It has been a busy week -- and I thought it would be a "slow" week -- so much for "thinking like that".  Hope to talk to you next week.

Hugs back to you... :)

JuJu,you have been so loving and kind to us. Thank you so much for the invitation. It turned out to be a wonderful excuse to get to visit with family and I'm so tickled to have gotten to! Especially with hubby at the homestead holding down the fort. Thank you darlin'. really and we'll get together soon. Maybe a shopping trip with Marchel...soon.

Later in the rain and lots of hugs~Deb

Posted by Deb Brooks (Brooks Prime Properties Wichita Falls Texas) about 11 years ago

Valerie, thank you so much for your concern. I am just now, today, beginning to get back into focus. It's been trying and it's also been tiring. I'm ready for a sit down day! Thanks a bunch for your support.

Later in the rain~Deb

Posted by Deb Brooks (Brooks Prime Properties Wichita Falls Texas) about 11 years ago

It was a great excuse to get to visit your family -- it's always nice to go someplace where there's unconditional love and support during a time like that -- family is always best.  :)

Yep, we're definitely going to have to get together.  Once everything is back to "normal" (whatever that is) we'll have to start planning the LA/TX Active Rain Gathering in Lake Charles.  We need to give Derenda a chance to recover -- she did have damage to her home.  :(

Posted by Judi Morgan, San Antonio, TX Real Estate (RETIRED) about 11 years ago

JuJu, what kind of damage did Derenda have? Is she okay? I certainly hope so! We'll start planning soon!

4" of water in her house  :(   My brother got 6" in his house  :(

We'll give her time to get her life and house back in order before we start planning again.  I'll give her a call tomorrow or early next week to see how repairs, etc. are going.
